Career prospects

Business administration is still one of the most sought-after courses of study in Germany. Graduates have a good chance of finding a suitable job or working freelance in a wide range of areas in the private and public sectors.

Business economists should be able to support management in various areas of business administration and, after appropriate familiarisation, to take on management tasks themselves.

In addition to imparting specialist knowledge, the study programme therefore promotes personality development and the acquisition of management knowledge and management techniques for assuming management tasks in business administration.

Building on a basic knowledge of business administration, the choice of a major field of study enables a moderate specialisation without the graduates being one-sidedly restricted to a specific field of activity. They should know the problems as well as the possibilities and limits of problem-solving techniques and be enabled to take on particularly qualified tasks in business and administration.

Due to the breadth of the business administration studies at the Deggendorf University of Technology, graduates are able to work in a wide range of fields in different functions and in different industries such as industry, trade, services, IT, etc. The degree program is designed to meet the needs of the business world.

Übersicht über die Studienschwerpunkte:

In recent years, most German companies have adapted to international markets and global competition. This trend affects companies of all sizes, both small and medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises. Therefore, it is becoming more and more important for newcomers not only to master the standard methods and procedures in marketing and sales, but above all to be able to demonstrate international competence. Within the framework of this focus, students should be taught the knowledge necessary to successfully place products on international markets, to develop branding and advertising no longer for the domestic market but for export markets and to successfully complete international sales projects.

The focus of the course is on service management and the communication of essential management concepts for service-specific relationship processes. The aim here is to impart cross-industry knowledge to students in the sense of a general management approach. In addition to this professional competence, students have the opportunity to work on projects, diploma theses, case studies, simulations, etc., in order to improve their knowledge of the business processes involved. Methodological and social skills, i.e. so-called "soft skills", which are among the central key qualifications in service occupations, can be developed.

The importance of efficient supply chain management for securing the success of a company will continue to grow in the future - also against the background of ever more progressive globalization. On the one hand, supply chain management opens up the possibility of establishing competitive advantages in global markets in the face of increasing competitive pressure. On the other hand, cost pressure is also forcing companies to increase efficiency within value chains, as logistics costs account for up to 25% of the total costs of a product. Building on many years of professional experience and the strong networking of the chair holder with business practice, students are taught in-depth knowledge of purchasing and logistics in lectures, exercises, business games and excursions. Networked thinking and the pursuit of a holistic management approach enable our graduates to manage complex and global value chains.

Sound knowledge of controlling and accounting is indispensable for the management of a company. Students are enabled to design, implement and optimize controlling instruments depending on the individual company conditions. The software implementation is based on the modules FI and CO of SAP-R/3. In addition, the instruments of strategic and operative controlling, cost management as well as balance sheet analysis, international accounting and group accounting represent core areas of the study focus.

The focus on taxation offers students a comprehensive teaching programme based on the content of the 3rd + 4th semesters. It is a study focus that offers ideal conditions for a career in areas such as

  •     Tax advisor/auditor,
  •     Leading activity in the commercial administration of companies,
  •     Management Consultancy/Corporate Structuring/Recapitalisation Consulting

Based on the knowledge of the basic subjects "Finance and Investment" as well as "Controlling and Treasury" the students deepen their problem awareness in these subjects. Students are enabled to make financial and investment management decisions using the necessary financing and hedging techniques. In addition, they are made familiar with the special requirements that cooperation with various financial service providers entails.

Financial management and treasury play an increasingly important role in the management of medium-sized companies. Modern financing instruments such as mezzanine, private equity or stock market segments for medium-sized companies mean that, in addition to mastering controlling instruments, financial knowledge is increasingly required as a hand tool in the business management area of a medium-sized company. Business economists who are able to perform both the financial control with a view to liquidity and the "pilot function" with a view to business success are therefore particularly in demand in medium-sized companies.
