Dr. Jefferson G. Fernandes is a neurologist, professor, and researcher with over forty years of experience spanning clinical neurology, medical education, scientific research, management, and healthcare innovation. Having worked at leading academic institutions and health organizations — where he has established teaching, research, and innovation centres — he now focuses his work on digital health and telemedicine. He serves as Director of Education of the International Society for Telemedicine & eHealth (ISfTeH) and as Visiting Professor at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA) in Brazil.

Across his career, Dr. Fernandes has combined clinical practice with academic leadership, building programmes and centres dedicated to teaching, research, and innovation in medicine. His long trajectory in neurology and healthcare management has increasingly converged on the use of technology to strengthen care delivery and expand access.

Dr. Fernandes contributes to the international digital health community through a range of editorial, teaching, and advisory roles. He is Editor for Latin America of the journal Telehealth and Medicine Today (USA), co-coordinates and teaches the Key Knowledge Course in Digital Health at Nova Medical School, NOVA University Lisbon (Portugal), and teaches in the Digital Health Academy (India). Within Brazil, he serves as Vice-President of the Digital Health Commission of the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB).

He also serves as a consultant and board member for digital health companies and startups, bringing his clinical, academic, and organizational experience to the development of new health technologies. His current focus remains on advancing digital health and telemedicine across Latin America and internationally.
