main tasks

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of innovative, transdisciplinary research projects in the field of sustainable energy systems, with a focus on solutions in the water-energy-food nexus in Southern Africa.

In addition to the acquisition of third-party funding in cooperation with national and international partners from science, business and industry, you will contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a research network, especially in the context of sustainable development and global partnership.

The publication of research results in scientific journals and conferences is just as much a part of your duties as participation in teaching events, including the supervision of students.

Furthermore, you have knowledge in the field of renewable energy systems and ideally have initial experience in the conceptual design of energy systems (solar, biomass) or are familiar with optimisation and simulation methods.

In addition, you have intercultural competence, presentation and communication skills as well as initial experience in project management.
You have very good written and spoken English language skills and enjoy travelling to Southern Africa for research projects.

You are a team player with a high degree of creativity. Personal responsibility, goal-orientation and an above-average level of ambition round off your profile.

In principle, this position can also be filled as a part-time position. It is remunerated according to the collective bargaining agreement TV-L (E13).

Severely disabled applicants will be given preference if they essentially have equal qualifications, competence and professional performance.

For candidates holding foreign university degrees it is mandatory to submit a certificate evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen, ZAB) in the course of the recruitment procedure for final evaluation of the recruitment requirements (https://www.kmk.org/zab/zeugnisbewertung.html).

Arbeitsumfeld

Your work environment

The DIT is considered the most research-oriented and international University of Applied Sciences in Bavaria. Only English study programmes are taught at the Pfarrkirchen campus, which makes the European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI) a cosmopolitan and modern working environment. The ECRI is centrally located. It is located in the charming district town of Pfarrkirchen, which belongs to the administrative district of Lower Bavaria and is situated in south-eastern Germany. The town is idyllically situated between the Danube and Inn rivers and offers many leisure activities. Pfarrkirchen has excellent school and educational facilities. Attractive cities nearby are Passau, Regensburg, Linz and Salzburg, and Munich International Airport is only a 90-minute drive away. The proximity to Austria and the Czech Republic places the district town at the center of Europe. Employees can spend their breaks in the cafeteria located on campus, and parking is available directly on campus.

Focus on research

The Deggendorf Institute of Technology is one of the most dynamic and ambitious Universities of Applied Sciences in Southern Germany renowned for excellence in research. R&D projects are always rooted in real-life cases, as research staff collaborate with regional and international companies from the private sector to develop innovative solutions for immediate application, mainly funded by national government and EU grants.

For example, between January and April 2023, 27 applications for research funds were approved by the local government, supplying our professors and scientists with the financial backing to work on R&D projects. To further support these projects, professors are granted teaching-free semesters to focus on research work.

Our own facilities provide an ideal environment for applied research and teaching: 3 teaching campuses in Deggendorf, Cham and Pfarrkirchen plus 13 innovation and technology campuses equipped with the best facilities to specialise in a particular field (as depicted) are dotted in a network around the region. Research projects are generally categorised into four main areas: Digitalisation, Sustainability, Intelligent Mobility and Health Sciences.
