At DIT, our focus is on health promotion and prevention. We aim to create structures and processes that not only protect staff, faculty, and students from illness but also enhance their activities as health-promoting factors for life quality. The Healthy University team coordinates efforts to create a holistic health-promoting environment. This requires support from various departments and contributions from everyone. Our goal is to develop and implement a sustainable university health management system.


guiding principle

"Health" is the most valuable asset for humans. Maintaining or regaining it in case of illness requires health education and skills in self-observation, self-assessment, and self-reflection.

University Sports

Active Break

 

The "Active Break" offers DIT staff a chance to interrupt their workday for 20 minutes once a week to take a short, holistic rest and recovery break. This health-oriented short program includes mobilization, movement, and relaxation, and is announced in advance via email. For those unable to participate in real-time, past sessions are available on a platform. It is aimed at everyone seeking an active balance to their workday, whether it's office work, desk jobs, or physically demanding tasks.

 

Corporate Sport Activities

 

Our university is not only a place for teaching and research; it is also a workspace and living environment for everyone. Therefore, corporate health promotion is given special importance, with sports being a significant part of it.

In addition to the general university sports, which all enrolled students and full-time staff can participate in, corporate sports are offered within the framework of corporate health management. These activities serve as a balance to professional duties and as a tool for health promotion.

These activities take place exclusively during leisure time and do not focus on performance. The emphasis of corporate sports is on social and athletic interaction rather than achieving high athletic performance. Employees can join corporate sports groups such as yoga, swimming, climbing, walking, or running clubs.

DIT also participates in the German Sports Badge programme every year.

Lectures, Seminars, Workshops and Activities on the subject of Health

DIT aims to promote not only the academic qualifications of students but also their health. This benefits students during their studies and in their future professional lives. We regularly inform you via email about lectures, seminars, workshops, and activities on health topics. Additionally, feel free to explore the diverse range of seminars offered by the Career Services.

All students at DIT can access the Campus-Coach. This platform offers exclusive digital services specifically designed to meet the needs of students.

 

Shaping Campus Life

The campus thrives on your ideas and initiatives! Thanks to our students, we offer activities like a Schafkopf course, book club, and self-defence classes.

We invite all students to actively participate in the Student Health Management (SGM), to shape it, enrich it with ideas, and develop it further. If interested, feel free to reach out to us.


Mental Health

For help with general or organisational difficulties in your studies, contact the student and academic councelling.

DIT participates in the project "Universities in Dialogue: Mentally Fit Studying," maintaining regular exchanges with other universities to create a health-promoting university culture and enhance academic success.

All DIT staff have access to the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), offering counselling, coaching, and support for personal development and successful teamwork. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.

Healthy at the Workplace

As part of its health promotion efforts, DIT places great importance on providing both students and staff with opportunities for adequate physical activity.

  • Ergonomics

We spend a significant portion of our lives at the workplace, each presenting unique challenges. Office work involves extensive sitting: at the computer, on calls, in meetings. While acute risks are rare, long-term issues such as tension, back pain, vision problems, shoulder and neck issues, circulation problems, headaches, and stress-related symptoms can develop. It’s crucial to set up your workspace ergonomically to minimise physical strain. We offer individual consultations (both in-person and virtual) with tips on ergonomic workplace design. Regular appointments are available; more information can be found on the intranet.

  • Work Equipment

DIT supports its staff with equipment to maintain health at the workplace. Feel free to ask us about the requirements and procedures.

DIT also covers the cost of computer glasses. Contact us for information on the reimbursement process.

You will receive email invitations to various offers, including lectures, seminars, workshops, and activities on topics such as "Nutrition," "Exercise," and "Stress Management."

 

DIT, as an employer, supports its staff in their professional development through various personal development measures. The Personnel Development Department is responsible for advising employees and managers and for the operational implementation of these measures.

  • To ease the transition for new employees, DIT's Personnel Development continuously improves onboarding strategies
  • They also provide information on professional development, team-building activities, retreats, digital seminars, and coaching. These resources cover personal development, self-management, health literacy, and more.
  • DIT values a respectful leadership culture. In 2022, a leadership program was developed to enhance leadership skills and provide DIT-specific knowledge in leadership.

 

Quiet Room at the Deggendorf Campus

The Quiet Room is located in the "Green Roof" pavilion and is available to all staff and students with disabilities and chronic illnesses. It is easily accessible from the campus.

The quiet room also serves as a parent-child office, allowing parents to work or study when childcare is unavailable. It is equipped with all the necessary amenities to meet the needs of parents. A "Kidsbox" with a wide range of games is available for children's entertainment. There is a comfortable chair for nursing, and the adjacent sanitary area provides facilities for changing babies.

Mensa & cafeterias

Nutrition has a significant impact on physical and mental performance. In the everyday life of a student, it can be difficult to maintain regular and balanced meals. Here are three good reasons to use the offerings of the canteen and cafeterias of the Student Union:

  • Save time and eat healthily: Our bodies require various nutrients to function optimally, including vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
  • Better control over food intake: Fixed times allow better management of meal quantity and quality. It trains the feeling of hunger, leading to more mindful eating.
  • Shared meals: Eating together is important for social bonds. Fixed meal times in the canteen promote communication with your fellow students.

At DIT, there are various dining options:

The canteen offers a regularly changing and diverse menu at affordable prices. In the cafeterias in Deggendorf, Cham, and Pfarrkirchen, you can enjoy your first coffee, cappuccino, cocoa, or tea early in the morning. A selection of freshly filled rolls and other delicious hot and cold snacks is also available.

The Student Union aims to meet the wishes and expectations of students and strives to fulfill their needs quickly and appropriately. All services are offered to students at high quality and economical prices.

Good to know:

  • Sustainability: The Student Union aims to act sustainably and continuously improve its ecological balance, for example, by using organic foods from the region and fair-trade products from around the world.
  • Free children's meal in the canteen: The Student Union wants to support student parents and provides a free children's meal for children aged 0 to 6 when a student parent pays for a main course with a valid student ID. A children's meal basically consists of a main dish from the regular daily offer and a side dish, which can also be a soup or dessert.
