On 1 October, the new winter semester 2018/19 officially started at universities of applied sciences in Bavaria. The number of students at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology has risen to a new maximum of around 7,000. There have never been this many freshers and international students in Deggendorf.

For the 2370 freshers, the semester began with the First Semester Day, organized by the Student Association. There were numerous information stands on campus and the official first semester welcome was broadcast in several lecture halls and via live stream. As part of the welcoming speech, the students heard DIT President Prof. Dr. Peter Sperber, the Minister of Culture Bernd Sibler, the Lord Mayor Dr. Christian Moser and representatives of important departments for the students in the future. In order for the freshers to find their way, first-semester mentors are available in every course of study.

For the first time, the Bachelor's programme Technical Design and the Master's programme Mechatronic and Cyberphysical Systems are offered. The part-time Bachelor's degree course in Business Informatics is now focused on Data Science. A new or revised program of seminars, workshops and lectures is also available from Career Service. Registrations are now possible here.
