Green light for Technology Campus Vilshofen

29.9.2020 | THD-Pressestelle

The Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT) is founding another Technology Campus (TC) in the district of Passau. The “Bavarian Centre for Digital Security” will be established in Vilshofen. It is intended to promote basic research and application-oriented research in the field of data security. In particular, for industrial plants and automobiles.

At a press conference of the city of Vilshofen on 17 September, Minister of State Bernd Sibler and DIT Vice President Prof Waldemar Berg, together with Mayor Florian Gams, announced the news. The approval of the city council followed a week later with a clear “Yes”. Construction work on the new building will begin in 2021 and the campus is expected to be operational as early as autumn 2022. From the university, Prof Dr Martin Schramm as head of the TC and Prof Dr Peter Ullrich will be coming to Vilshofen. Two further professors are to be appointed directly for the location after the opening of the TC Vilshofen. Up to 30 new jobs will be created. Positions for four engineers, up to four foremen, administrative staff and student assistants. Doctoral students are also to carry out research on site every once in a while. With its twelfth Technology Campus, the university is continuing a unique concept. Since 2009, DIT has successfully founded special research facilities. So far in the districts of Cham, Regen, Freyung-Grafenau, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen and Passau. Experts there develop application-specific special solutions in close cooperation with high-tech companies. At the centre of this institutional work is the symbiosis of scientific research and its economic application. This close cooperation dynamises the regional economy and sets novel technological accents far removed from urban areas. Companies benefit from access to the laboratory and research capacities of DIT, and valuable industrial contacts are created for research interns and prospective graduates.
