Pioneering & Vibrant

7th Day of Research (2020)

Review of the 7th Day of Research

On 23 July 2020, the Covid-19 Research Day took place online for the first time.

Ten selected young researchers were face with the challenge of presenting their research projects in no more than three minutes in such a way that even non-specialists could understand what they were working on.
And as always, the topics of the presentations were extremely diverse. In detail, they dealt with the production of industrial facilities against hacker attacks, culturally fluid academic stanards in intercultural training, batteryless Internet-of-Things components, innovations in the organisation of a ward for cancer patients, a data analyis-based system for traffic management in cities, a machining process for components in optical measurement technology, the training and further education of nursing and health care personnel in the Bavarian-Bohemian border region, the further development oof diffusion processes for the production of fibre-optic networks or optical sensors, a management system for the optimisation of technical processes in the glass industry as well as sustainibility-oriented meeting place and event room by and for students.

The race for the coveted glass trophy, the Best Presentation Award, was won by Daniel Schäffer from TC Teisnach Sensorik. With his perky illustration of complicated diffusion processes in glass using small, cute kittens in a colourful ball bath, he reaped a lot of enthusiasm.

At the Best Poster Competition, Oliver Quer (Faculty of Applied Health Sciences), Anja Braehmer (TC Freyung) and Dr Florian Wahl (TC Grafenau) won three genrous vouchers from Bücher Pustet. This year, the posters were designed for the first time with the motto "One picture, one sentence". All 29 posters on current research projects at DIT can still be viewed on PUBinPLAN and downloaded in PDF format and are also available in a flip page version.

Dr Kristin Seffer, the director of the Graduate Centre, congratulated Dr Kristina Wanieck and Dr Nadine Kaczmarkiewicz on their completed doctorates. Afterwards, the vice president for research and knowledge transfer, Prof Dr-Ing Andreas Grzemba, honoured the best and most high-ranking publications from the previous year. In the category "Best Scientific Publication" the senior researcher Dr Luis Ramirez Camargo (TC Freyung; Energy & Environmental Science) and the junior researcher Michael Heigl (Institute ProtectIT; Computers and Security) received awards. In the category "Best contribution at a conference", the senior researcher Prof Dr Stefan Mátéfi-Tempfli (European Campus Rottal-Inn) and the junior researcher Johannes Jakob (IPH Teisnach) were rewarded for their achievements at renowned international conferences.

The "Day of Research" series of events is aimed at a broad public from business, industry and society, at future students, interested employees and DIT students.

The aim of the series of events is to provide an insight into the research landscape of DIT with its four main research areas. Young researchers in particular present current research projects in the form of short lectures and posters at the Days of Research.

The best lecture will be honoured with the Best Presentation Award at the Day of Research. The trophy was designed by the design class at the Glasfachschule Zwiesel and produced in the educational institution's own factory.
