application and service fees for non-EU/EEA international applications and students

From the winter semester 2025/26, Deggendorf Institute of Technology will charge the following fees in accordance with Art. 13 Para. 3 Sentence 1 Number 2 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG)

  • €60 application fee (multiple applications possible without further payment) at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, plus
  • €500 DIT service fee per semester for enrolled students (the academic year consists of two semesters)


These fees are to cover the costs of checking your documents and the selection process for applications and the services offered in the areas of onboarding, integration and preparation for career entry for international students. You can find more information here: These are our services

Irrespective of this, the student union fee must still be paid each semester.


Who is charged service fees?

Persons with a nationality outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).

The application fee starts at the beginning of the application phase for the winter semester 2025/2026 and also applies to the subsequent application phases.

The start for the service fees takes place with the admission / enrolment or re-registration for the winter semester 2025/2026. The tuition fees are charged per semester for the duration of the entire study programme and enrolment at DIT.


Who is exempt?

No service fees are charged for the following persons, subject to appropriate verification:

  • Germans or persons treated as equivalent to Germans.
  • Citizens of an EU member state and/or the EEA (EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). 
  • Persons with an established domestic connection (i.e. persons who have lived in Germany for at least 5 years and have been legally employed or at least one parent has lived in Germany for a total of 3 years during the last 6 years before the start of the semester and has been legally employed)
  • Persons from the United Kingdom are exempt from the obligation to pay fees if they established their residence in Germany before 31 December 2020 
  • Persons from Turkey are exempt from the obligation to pay fees if they can provide evidence of an established domestic connection.
  • Persons who have their habitual residence in Germany and are recognised outside of Germany as refugees within the meaning of the Geneva Refugee Convention and are not only temporarily entitled to reside in Germany
  • Persons who have acquired their higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) or an undergraduate degree (e.g. Bachelor) in the German education system. This does not include those who have only attended a preparatory college.
  • Students who were already enrolled at DIT before the relevant fee regulations came into force (before 15 April 2023) and are continuing this degree programme. 
  • Persons seeking protection from Ukraine according to § 24 AufenthG
  • Long-term tolerated persons with permanent residence in Germany and at least 15 months of uninterrupted, legally permitted or tolerated residence
  • Exchange students as well as summer school and further education participants (tuition fees are sometimes charged for these).
  • Students who are enrolled as part of a doctoral programme.
  • Students with a relevant case of hardship.
