European Campus Rottal-Inn’s Professor Chaltikyan at World Congress on Information Technology
16.10.2019 | DIT-Press - On October 6-9, the 23rd World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) took place in Yerevan, Armenia. European Campus Rottal-Inn’s (ECRI) Professor Dr. med. Georgi Chaltikyan took part in a panel as a representative of the campus.
This year’s WCIT was held under the motto “The Power of Decentralization: Promise and Peril” and explored how information and communication technology (ICT) is transforming our lives for better and for worse – its impact on profits and prosperity, safety and security, healthcare, democracy and humanity.
As participant of the panel “Healthcare: Impact on Two Hemispheres” Prof. Chaltikyan contributed to the panel discussion. He was invited to reflect on his experiences both in Armenia and internationally, and to provide his insights on the current state and upcoming developments in Digital Health. He introduced the study programs related to Digital Health at ECRI, and the panellists then engaged in a lively and multi-faceted discussion on various aspects, opportunities and challenges of digitizing healthcare.
Prof. Chaltikyan has recently been elected to the World Health Organization’s Roster of Experts on Digital Health. He is also the coordinator of the study program Master of Medical Informatics at ECRI.
WCIT is the high-level signature event of the World Information Technology & Services Alliances (WITSA), a consortium of ICT associations from 83 countries, representing 90% of the industry. The 2019 WCIT was hosted for the first time by the Government of Armenia and the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE). This year’s congress featured special keynote presentations and panel discussions on various topics ranging from Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Virtual Reality, Smart Cities, and Digital Inclusion and Equality, to Cybersecurity, Digital Health, Climate Change, and more. A record-breaking 6.200 registered attendees from more than 90 countries worldwide, including more than 15 special keynote speakers and more than 80 distinguished moderators and panellists attended the 2019 WCIT.
For 40 years, technology leaders – CEOs and investors, policymakers and government officials, academics and technologists – have joined the annual WCIT event to discuss the state of the industry, where it is headed, and what it means for our future. Past speakers at WCIT include the former US President Bill Clinton, the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates, and the co-founder and CEO of Oracle Larry Ellison, among many other opinion leaders and experts from around the globe. The world’s leading academics, technologists and entrepreneurs attend WCIT as it stimulates a decentralized network of experiences.
