Even if the future is unknown to man, it is an essential part of the horizon that education opens up. There is no doubt that diversity is a key prerequisite for future-proof education.

Diversity refers to the variety of characteristics, traits and perspectives within a group or society. This includes aspects such as ethnic origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, abilities, cultural background, religion and many other dimensions.

In education work, it is crucial to recognise and acknowledge similarities and differences. Recognition means valuing and respecting the individual and unique characteristics of individuals or groups. In a diversity-conscious environment, the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences is actively recognised and valued.

Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT) has been committed to valuing and promoting the diversity of its students, teaching staff and employees for many years.

This has been officially recognised by Proudr LGBTIQ+ Campus Index for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, 2021.

We have been placed no.4 with a total of 79,7 % our LGBTIQ+ support.

 

The creation of an unprejudiced study and work environment is of utmost importance for our university.
The Charter of Diversity is an employer initiative to promote diversity in companies and institutions. By signing it, the university wishes to emphasize the importance of this issue.
The aim of the initiative is to promote the recognition, appreciation and inclusion of diversity in the working world in Germany. All members of the university should be valued - regardless of gender, gender identity, nationality, ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity.


In order to do justice to the many facets of cultural and social background, the individual educational and experiential background and the respective living conditions of our students, we deal with the increasing diversity and offer:

  • Tips and individual support, information and assistance
  • Seminars
  • Exchange and networking and, if necessary, a mentor to support you
  • The opportunity to address barriers as a student and develop solutions

Whether women are in management positions or not has long ceased to be a question of equal opportunities or political correctness. In times of global competition and lack of managers, it is rather economically imperative to recruit managers from the supply of both genders. It is not a matter of victory or defeat for women and/or men, but rather of profit for all concerned.

  • VHB Seminar „Gender and Diversity“

The ability of working in groups and teams is largely determined by how the relationship between men and women is constructed and how people's different characters are dealt with. Who talks more, who talks less? Who makes decisions, who is responsible for the climate? Who is present in which role and how? In this context, today nobody can avoid the additional qualification gender competence.

Scholarships for female students and scientists

  • With the qualification programme "rein-in-die-hörsäle" (into-the-lecture rooms), the State Conference of Women's and Equal Opportunities Representatives at Bavarian Universities (LaKoF Bayern/HAW) supports especially qualified women with a university degree who are aiming for a career as a university professor. Two different doctoral scholarships and a qualification scholarship for admission to doctoral studies complement the programme and are intended to facilitate the path to a university career.
     
  • The YOLANTE-Mentoring-Programme: Siemens supports female students in scientific or technological courses.
     
  • The MTU-Studienstiftung promotes women in scientific and technological studies fördert.
     
  • The Christiane-Nüsslein-Volhard-Stiftung supports female scientists with children.
     
  • The Minerva-Programm der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft promotes young female scientists in their career in research.
     
  • The YOUNG WOMEN LEADERSHIP scholarship for (prospective) female junior managers.

Advice for the re-entry

 

THD Pride warmly welcomes any member of the LGBTQ+ community, who seeks advice or the company of likeminded individuals. We recognize that many students, especially those from outside Germany, may not have a supportive queer environment. Therefore we aim to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for queer students to share as much as they would like.

We are currently a close-knit community, that meets online and in presence when possible. In the future, we plan to host events that put us on the map for queer students to join us, as well as using these events to educate folks outside of the queer community on LGBTQ+ culture and issues.

As a young, modern and aspiring university, we feel obliged to create a positive environment for our students, employees and all those who wish to visit us. The aim of the Commissioner for Equal Opportunities for Women in Science and the Arts is to give women's issues a higher profile at our university and to be a contact point for professors, teaching staff and students at the university and beyond. Our range of services is intended to help all women at the university to enhance their career opportunities and to promote their opportunities for further education. Such a network can serve as a source of information and contact point for those seeking information, and can also provide a forum in which experiences can be exchanged. Women are also encouraged to strive for academic titles. The university aims to increase the number of female professors and teaching staff.
